Bantara

A 9 ton Falmouth Pilot, Bantara was designed by Rodney Warington-Smythe and built by the Falmouth Boat Construction Co in the mid 1960s.

Nearly all of these boats were aft cockpit, Bantara being an exception with a centre cockpit design. Over the years, during her time berthed at Birdham Pool we have carried out various repairs to keep her in ship shape condition.

We carried out a substantial refit recently, which addressed quite a few repairs to be done on her deck, as well as replacing the cabin front. All of the old deck paint coatings were removed, and local repairs to the sheathing were applied. Then the whole deck was repainted with new priming and non-slip coats to offer protection and longevity from the elements.

In 2002 she came back into our shed over the winter to have her bright work attended to, and the cabin sides and topsides repainted. There were also a few minor repairs undertaken to generally keep on top of things.
